Mrs. King has taught piano privately for 39 years. She taught the piano lab at Cavazos Middle School for 11 years and taught elementary music in Lubbock schools. Mrs. King graduated from North Texas State University in Denton, Texas, and received a Masters from Texas Tech.

In July 2011, received the Lubbock Music Teacher's Association Teacher of the Year Award.

In July 2006, Mrs. King was recognized as a National Honor Roll Outstanding American Teacher for making a difference in the community.

In June 2001, Mrs. King received the "I Make a Difference Award" with the conference being held in Chicago.  This was a national award on how teacher's use technology in the classroom. 

Mrs. King's students have received many awards in theory and performance at contests such as Texas Tech Pastorale and Greater Southwest Music Festival.
